Government Funders


The Halifax Regional Municipality has given support to Wonder'neath through the Grants to Professional Arts Organizations Program, which supports the operating capacity of producing and presenting arts organizations in the Municipality and advances the profile of the local arts sector by fostering broad public access to, and appreciation of, the arts. Wonder'neath is pleased to have received operational funding since 2018 and is honored to continue our work with this municipal support.

Arts Nova Scotia is the provincial funding agency that supports professional artists and arts organizations, arts education programs, and many arts awards and prizes. Wonder'neath has received operational funding from Arts Nova Scotia since 2019.


The Nova Scotia Creative Innovation Fund supports activities that use creativity and culture to address social issues and opportunities within communities.

In 2022 Wonder’neath received funding support from the Nova Scotia Cultural Innovation Fund for the Post-Covid Strategic Development Project and from the Diversity and Cultural Identities Fund for the Annie-Mae Pictou Legacy Mural.


The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada’s public arts funder. They contribute to the vibrancy of a creative and diverse arts and literary scene through grants, services, prizes, and payments to Canadian artists and arts organizations. 

We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts Canada on the Wayfinding Care Project (2023) and the Sow Thread Unfold project (2021).


Partners


Nocturne is an independent, free, contemporary art festival in Kjipuktuk/Halifax presented by the Nocturne: Art at Night Society founded in 2008. The festival brings art and energy to the streets of our city showcasing and celebrating the visual arts scene in Mi'kma'ki/Nova Scotia.

In 2023 Wonder’neath received support from Nocturne for The Wayfinding Care Project: a participatory delivery service pairing routes of festival attendees with sustaining care packages for event artists.

In 2023 Wonder’neath collaborated with Nocturne to present Noisemakers: In the Field: a 16-week professional development program for newcomer artists.


The Ecology Action Centre is a member-based environmental charity in Nova Scotia. Since 1971, we've taken leadership on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice.

In 2023, we partnered with the EAC to collaborate on programming for their pop-up mini-bike hub and worked together with the Art-Bikers to provide vital art programming and bike repair in the community level across the HRM.


Every One Every Day Kjipuktuk is working with local residents in the North End of Kjipuktuk (Halifax) to build a new system of neighborhood participation that has the potential to transform how we live and learn together every day. 

In 2023 Wonder’neath hosted the Community Build Trailer for several projects. With support from Wonder’neath and EOED, local artist Jeighk Koyote built a shadow puppet theatre accessible to the community.


ISANS is the leading immigrant settlement service agency in Atlantic Canada, serving 10,000+ clients annually in 104 communities across Nova Scotia, through many kinds of services—language, settlement, community integration, business development, and employment—both in person and online.

In 2023 Wonder’neath collaborated with ISANS on the Seawater Circles project, the Art Biker’s Nature Journals, the Noisemakers, and the Wayfinding Care Project.

Visual Arts Nova Scotia is an artist-run organization incorporated in 1976 to support and promote artists while advocating for the visual arts sector in Nova Scotia.


The North End Business Association was established as an official Business Improvement District (BID) in 2011. It is now one of eight BIDs in HRM, working hard to represent more than 350 members who have chosen to do business here.  

Wonder’neath gratefully acknowledges the support provided by NEBA in the Annie-Mae Pictou Legacy Mural (2023).

The Robert Pope Foundation fosters art, education, and community health initiatives to celebrate life and enhance well-being, health, and healing at all stages of living. Our focus on art, education, and health in Nova Scotia is implemented through actions aligned with the memory of artist, Robert Pope (1956 – 1992).

In 2023 the Robert Pope Foundation supported Open Studio Programming at Wonder’neath.


The Harrison McCain Foundation invests in projects that positively contribute to communities through arts, culture, health, science, and environmental initiatives.

In 2023 the Harrison McCain Foundation supported the Art Bikers program.


The S. M. Blair Family Foundation financially supports research and provides funding for charitable and educational purposes in Canada. It also encourages the training and development of Canadians in research.

In 2023 the S.M. Blair Family Foundation supported the launch of the Sketchbook Project.


The Halifax Youth Foundation provides funding to agencies carrying out programs for the benefit of children and youth consistent with the objectives of the foundation.

In 2023 the Halifax Youth Foundation supported the Black Youth Wellness Initiative, which includes support for the Black Artists Initiative.
