Artist in residence

Wonder’neath’s Studio Artist Program, providing renewable affordable studio spaces to visual artists and craftspeople, has always valued a range of artistic practices and opportunities for cross-pollination. Wonder’neath recognized the benefit to both the studio artists and community participants of artist residencies after a pilot collaboration with Visual Arts Nova Scotia as a location for their 40th Anniversary Artist in Residence (AiR) Program in 2017. Having artists working in the studio in focused short-term periods of artistic activity, and established a dedicated space in the studio to host an Artist-in-Residence program furthered our goal to engage the public with the practices of artists.

Wonder’neath has intermittent Artist Residencies depending on funding opportunities. We also host other organizations’ Artist in Residence programs.

You can find any current ‘Call for Artist in Residence’ on our opportunities page.

Deirdre Lee (In Partnership with radstorm)

September - October 2018

Deirdre Lee’s work is multidisciplinary, involving making, writing, and performing. Her Fall 2018 residency was timed to support the development of her project for Nocturne’s Nomadic Reciprocity that October. This residency was the first partnership between Wonder’neath and RadStorm, supported by Arts NS and an individual donation to Wonder’neath earmarked for programming. During her residency, Deirdre also hosted an evening of readings and discussion at the Central Library featuring CBC host and writer Rosanna Deerchild, and local poets Arielle Twist and Rebecca Thomas; and performed at a national SLAM poetry event. In an intense period of work, Deirdre greatly valued the physical, emotional, and financial support of the residency.
