Sketch Wonder’neath - Soft Launch | Wednesday, November 28th, 6-8pm, and public sketching hours!

Following our recent announcement of Sketch Wonder’neath, we are delighted to invite you to a soft launch on November 27th, 6-8 pm to celebrate these original sketchbooks, by artists across Canada in a mindful evening of sketching/journaling.

In 2023, Wonder’neath became one of five stewards of sketchbooks from the Brooklyn Art Library/ Sketchbook Project- a crowd-sourced project of sketchbooks from around the world that ran for 17 years. As we take this collection on its next journey here in Kjipuktuk, we are building a dedicated home to preserve these unique books and creating a studio-based library to make them accessible. We will share the sketchbooks through drop-in programming, artist residencies and special events; and encourage hands-on participation by artists of all levels of experience.

At this soft launch, you are invited to spend some time with us to draw and dream: how would you like to engage with the books? Who would you bring to draw and be inspired by these beautiful and complex stories? How would you like to be a part of the collection? How can we ensure this project is sustainable?

Following the soft launch, we’d love it if you can join our public sketching hours on Wednesdays:

  • Nov. 27th, 6-8 pm

  • Dec 4th, 6-8 pm

  • Dec 11th, 6-8 pm

  • Dec 18, 6-8 pm

As the work to catalogue the sketchbooks continues, we welcome cataloguing volunteers to join us at these times.
